The Elizabeth G was originally called the ‘ Bergen Kreds’ and was built for the NSSR (Norsk Selskab til Skibbrudnes Redning or Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue) in 1963 at Skudenshavn, Norway to Det Norsk Veritas +1 A1-N-ICE-C standards.

The Elizabeth G was heavily built and comprehensively fitted out as a liveaboard ocean-going towing and fleet support vessel for the Norwegian fishing fleet. She worked as Rescue Vessel No. 68 until 1997 when she was decommissioned by the NSSR and brought by Robert Spanswick who runs Delta Marine  from Lerwick in the Shetland Isles. Robert renamed the vessel the ‘Elizabeth G’ after his wife and she was used by Delta Marine for towage and survey work.

Rob Barlow replaced his popular charter vessel the ‘Poplar Diver’, purchasing the Elizabeth G from Robert Spanswick in early 2004.

Elizabeth G worked for two seasons, with the original superstructure and open aft deck in place, catering for 10 guests. Over the winter of 2005/2006 we completed a huge refit and rebuild, fitting and designing the rear saloon area,  observation deck, and refitting all the cabins. A lot of helpful advise was given by Mark Henrys and Hannah Thomson of Northern Light Charters and our conversion was based on their own highly successful one of the Hjalmer Bjorge, sister ship to the Elizabeth G.

‘Elizabeth G Charters’  is based in Tobermory on the Island of Mull and runs the Elizabeth G offering wildlife and diving cruises to the Outer Hebrides and the West Coast of Scotland. We specialise in trips to St.Kilda –Islands on the Edge of the World – we have comfortable and modern accommodation for up to 12 guests in six twin berth cabins and pride ourselves on our exceptional high quality of food served on board by our professional chefs. Our cruises have proved very popular and offer the chance to see the huge diversity of wildlife, birds and scenery and dive in some of the remotest parts of Scotland’s West coast, visiting the real ‘Wild isles’.

In the past Elizabeth G Charters has worked for the National Trust for Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage, Hebridean Whale & Dolphin Trust and various film projects including BBC’s Coast,  Landward and also Norways  ‘Tore pa sporet’ when we took a film crew to St.Kilda for a docomentary.

We are involved at the moment  in a two year bird survey with RPS looking at the impact of Windfarms on offshore sites.
