SATURDAY 26 JUNE – FRIDAY 2 JULY 2010

Our seven day/six night photography cruise on the Elizabeth G will explore the

islands of Skye, Eigg, Rum, Canna and Muck, all of which offer a wealth of

photographic opportunities and experiences. Led by Isle of Mull-based photographer

Dr Sam Jones of Islandscape Photography (www.islandscapephotography.co.uk),

you will learn skills such as composition, fieldcraft, the use of light and how to take

your photography to the next level through a combination of on board tutorials and in

the field tuition. Unlike land-based trips in the area, Elizabeth G will give us the

flexibility to be in the right place at the right time, including sunrise and sunset.

Itinerary

Our day to day itinerary will be determined by the prevailing weather and tidal

conditions but we expect to explore the spectacular beaches of Laig Bay and Camas

Sgiotaig (the ‘singing sands’) on Eigg, the fertile island of Muck which boasts

stunning views of Rum from Gallanach, the impressive geology of Canna and

Sanday as well as Lochs Nevis and Hourn in Knoydart. We may also have an

opportunity to visit the lighthouse island of Oigh-Sgeir to the south west of Canna as

well as the island of Soay, where Gavin Maxwell, author of Ring of Bright Water,

established a shark fishery. Whilst our primary focus will be on landscape

photography, you will also have the opportunity to see the diverse bird and marine

life of the area, including minke whales, basking sharks and shearwaters.

Tuition

Using a combination of classroom tutorials, in the field tuition and practical exercises,

the cruise aims to give guests an enhanced understanding of the following:

• Composition and reading the landscape;

• How to fully ‘work’ a location, including fieldcraft and equipment;

• Light and filtration;

• Working in colour and black and white;

• How to take your photography to the next level, including developing a personal vision and overcoming photographer’s ‘block’.

There will also be ample time in the evening to review the day’s images over a dram or two.

About the Elizabeth G

Elizabeth G was designed and built for search and rescue operations by the

Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue (NSSR), so she’s tough and very seaworthy.

Following a major refit and conversion in 2005, Elizabeth G now provides superb

accommodation for up to 12 guests. She also boasts great food, a highly

experienced skipper, and a friendly and knowledgeable crew.

Equipment

You should bring boots, waterproof gear and your camera and tripod if you have

one. We will have some facilities for viewing images but you may wish to bring your

laptop or other storage device if you have one as this will enhance the feedback

sessions on the images which you capture during the cruise or from your personal

portfolio.

Fitness

Some of the locations we visit will require a short walk but nothing too strenuous. If

you have any special needs, medical conditions or access issues, please let us know

at the time of booking.

Price

The cost of the cruise is £975 per person inclusive of accommodation, all meals and

tuition. The cruise is guaranteed to run for a minimum of 8 guests.
